This school was founded by the Methodist Missionaries in 1820 has grown from strength to strength, year by year during last 202 years shining in all its glory as a beacon of light in the educational arena of the Eastern Province. It has steered thousands of students to prosperity and success in their careers and social positions. Vincent Girls' High School was one of the few pioneer institutions for girls' education in the Eastern Sri Lanka.

Miss.A.M.Beauchamp was the first principal to assume office in 1877. She took full responsibility and organized education in the school. The first prize giving was held during her time. Before the arrival of the first principal the school was managed by the wives of the missionaries. The school was housed in Joshua Hall that existed in Mudaliyar Street, Battialoa, during its early beginnings before it was shifted to the present premises. The school was for sometimes a Tamil school, for sometimes a bilingual and also a mixed school.

After the time of Miss.Beachamp three principals had served the school until 1885. They were Miss.A.Y.Sargent, Miss.M.Robinson and Miss.E.D.Trimmer. It was durinng the time of Miss.A.A.Vincent between 1895 and 1903; The school was regestered as an English school and named after Miss.Vincent as Vincent Girls' High School. There were sixteen girls in the school then. As the numbers increased, accommodation for boarders commenced during her time. Three lady principals by names; Miss.L.M.HallMiss.M.Duckering, Miss.E.M.Church and Miss.A.R.Fuller one after another in succession.

Miss.Croft the last of all European educationists to have served the school took over the school with 84 students on its roll. She was the architect of the Institution both in the field of education and in its structural development. She started sports activities, Girl Guiding. Singing and folk dancing in the school. She also formed as club in which the girls were made to ride bicycle for first time. She inaugurated the Past Pupils Association in August 1934. The Croft Hall was built during her period.

Miss.A.Padman the next principal in 1949, An Arts Graduated from India, a worthy successor of school. She graduates from India; Lead the science Education also completed Padman Block that stands in the road frontage of the school premises was built in memory of her. 

The Government took over the school in 1961. Mrs.Chinnaiah who was the first National principal. Under her devoted successful sevice two students entered University of Colombo first time and she was succeeded by Mrs.P.Vaithianathan the first past pupils of the schooling 1974. Mrs.P.Pakkiarajah the other past pupil, first SLEAS lady Principal served from 1977-1990. Even though the science education was started in 1950, the approval was received in 1979. The students entered to medical and engineering faculty. The school magazine "Pezhai" was published in hand written books. Now it is an annual publication gives chances for the creation of students and also a document for the performance and activities.

In 1990 Mrs.S.Pavalakanthan took the administration. The new buildings were constructed and the special units were established.75th year anniversary was celebrated in 1997. Mrs.S. Chakarawarthy another past pupil of Vincent took over the school. University Entrance increased in all stream. The Students achieved in district tpo ranks. the old hostel building was demolished and replaced by a new building.

In 2007 our past principal Mrs.Sujatha Kulendrakumar took over the administration and the strengthened all supportive groups of SDS, SDC and VPPA and led her career. The main water problem was settled by construction of a well. A piece of land was bought by the support of VPPA. Front boundary wall was extended and constructed. The croft hall was replaced by new building. is now stand erect in the front view comprising auditorium, new A/L Science Laboratories and class rooms.

In 2012 Mrs.R.Kanagasingam appointed as principal and continued to strengthened the same SDC and VPPA to developed the school. During her period the sanitary facilities was solved by constructing of toilet block with the support of Ministry of Education and also during period foundation was lying to buildup primary separate building and technology block.

In 2018 Mrs.C.Subaharan appointed as principal and continued the performance in all activities achieved national awards. She introduced the school's first sports exhibition. And also she led the school to many outstanding achievements .

In 2020 Mrs.T.Uthayakumar appointed as principal and now continuing her service successfully. Since she came to our school, she has been rendering great service to the school.
